April 29, 2008Soul Eater 1+2, Kamen no Maid Guy 2
April 22, 2008Kamen no Maid Guy 2
Literally a whole episode devoted to 爆乳 disguised with a studying subplot.
Soul Eater 1
Fluid animation, a star studded cast there is a lot to like about the show especially if you can stomach shonen action. Koyama Rikiya sure has range. I recognized that he did the narration but according to ANN he also does the voice for Shinigama-sama. Also I hate to rag on Chiaki Omigawa but she really sucks. Hopefully she’ll improve as the episodes go on. Otherwise not much to talk about a fairly standard intro episode.
Soul Eater 2
Another character intro episode plus another one next episode. I think that Bones could’ve transitioned the intros a bit episodes a bit better. Also why do the male characters in the show have strange names like Black Star, Soul Eater and Death the Kid whereas the female characters have proper names like Maka Alban and Tsubaki Nakatsukasa?
non-weekly roundup
April 21, 2008Kaiba 1
By far the most intriguing/original show of the season so far. The old school character designs are a nice change of pace and it gives me Matrix vibes for some reason – I think it was the holes in their heads but I’m likely alone on this. I’m not going to even try and explain the plot – BluWacky does a good job of that. LoliHat’s comment: “This is what would happen if Osamu Tezuka took way too much acid” is pretty spot on. I’m eagerly anticipating the next episode.
Penguin Musume 1
Not even the power of oppai could save the show from being boring. Stupid sans the funny.
Kamen no Maid Guy 1,3
Its entertaining but I’ve completely forgotten what the last episode I saw was about. Rikchan will keep me watching. Also Emiri Katou (Kagamin) has bit role as Naeka(I had to look her name up)’s friend. edit: I remember now – yuri is always encouraged even the LFB kind.
Kyouran Kazoku Nikki 1
It sounded funnier on paper than it actually was. I’ll give it a couple more episodes to see what the jellyfish does.
Macross Frontier 1
Came in with big expectations and was somewhat disappointed especially the later part where: the pilot dies during battle and the robot is empty(ied) and the main character hops in and operates the robot. I don’t watch a lot of mecha but that setup already feels old to me.
Gintama 54
Not much to comment on other than its the most consistently funny long-running show out there. Oh and afros are always funny no matter the setting.
Minami-ke Okawari 12,13 (wow I’m late)
めがねいらねえええ …ahem sorry but why did Asread add a really annoying character to an already large cast? I’d rather they gave more minutes to Riko-chan or even Kumada-sensei. That said I’m going to miss Minami-ke.
Gurren Lagann (re)licensed
April 19, 2008Bandai Entertainment – have picked up where ADV left off with the first sub only release coming in July and the dub coming first Q 2009. Supposedly the sub discs will be released in double disk sets.
Obligatory news post: Haruhi Novels Licensed
April 18, 2008…and manga as well.
Haruhi Novels Licensed (06:59 PM EDT): A bit more information has slipped out today just before the New York Comic Con that the Haruhi Suzumiya light novels have been licensed as part of a co-venture betwee longtime publisher Little, Brown and Yen Press, both of which are under the Hachette group:
“Little, Brown Books for Young Readers is publishing the first English language translations of the novels based on the internationally popular Japanese property Haruhi Suzumiya. Acquired from Japanese publisher Kadokawa Shoten, the first title in the Little, Brown program, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya by Nagaru Tanigawa will be published in April 2009 as an original trade paperback with 8 volumes to follow. The program will be overseen by Director of Paperbacks Joe Monti and is the first joint publishing venture between Yen Press and Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, both imprints of Hachette Book Group USA.”

Given its popularity it’s kind of surprising it didn’t happen earlier. The fact that there’s a second season coming will push it over the top.
Kamen no Maid Guy
April 6, 2008Producer: So you’ll be playing this guy with a mask…

Rik-chan will be back doing net radio this time with Yuka Iguchi who played Ai-chan in True Tears. The show starts on Animate Web Radio on 4/10.
